Here is an optional item for your BOB that crossed my mind the other day.
Throw a basic digital camera into your BOB. Depending on the reason you had to bug out you may want to take a few pictures of things you encounter along the way. (Either for litigation, posterity, or make a profit off that cool first contact picture.)
1. No need to go too fancy. A small 3-8 megapixel variety would do just fine. (Most of us already have one laying around. If not, you can pick one up for nothing nowadays. $100.00 to $250.00.)
2. Be sure it uses disposable batteries and not rechargeable. (Unless you are sure you can reach an outlet where you are going...) Pack enough batteries to load it 3-4 times.
3. Have a large enough memory card to hold some images. 4 gigabytes at minimum.
4. To state the obvious. Keep it in a sealed pouch to keep it dry.
5. You may need to throw in the USB for downloading images, but I think this would be negotiable. |
